LÁGRIMAS DE MARÍA CRIANZA (Rioja)

Lágrimas de María Crianza is a single-varietal wine made with a carefully selected 100% Tempranillo from La Rioja, aged for 12 months in American oak barrels to reach the perfect point of maturity. It is then left in the bottle for a few more months to complete its refinement.

The initial winemaking process involves controlled-temperature fermentation and a pre-fermentation maceration before aging in barrels.

This is a ruby red wine, with a high, clean, and bright layer. On the nose, it is very aromatic, with prominent notes of well-ripened forest fruits, combined with the toasty tones from twelve months in wood and hints reminiscent of coconut and vanilla. On the palate, it is long and round, with sweet notes and additional nuances from the barrel. This is a wine with character—very expressive and with structure.

Consult with our specialists to find the best vintage we have available, as we don’t always have every year. We could say that 2018 and 2019 were good years for Lágrimas de María, but we’ll wait to see if there are others that match or surpass them.

We recommend serving it at a temperature of 18°C. It pairs excellently with stews and traditional dishes from the La Rioja Alta region.

This project was created by Zinio Wineries, inspired by their winemaker María Martínez, an expert whose goal was to craft wines full of sensitivity and offer consumers the highest quality, as with this Lágrimas de María collection—a challenge filled with sensations for the palate.

Lágrimas de María wines are very special, single-varietals crafted from classic varieties of the La Rioja region, some with Viura and others with Tempranillo (red or white grapes). This concept showcases style as the main feature, offering the palate exquisite fruity, fresh, and elegant flavors, along with a lot of personality that sets a trend in modern winemaking.

In the Madrueño online store, you can find three wines designed by winemaker María Martínez with different aging processes: Lágrimas de María Madurado, Lágrimas de María Joven, and this one aged for 12 months.
